Models! Bunnies! A shocking amount of sparkle! The Playboy Club New York doesn’t officially open its doors until mid-September, but that didn’t stop Jeremy Scott from throwing his post-runway show party during New York Fashion Week at the eagerly anticipated venue. Then again, not much, it seems, would stop Jeremy Scott from doing exactly what he wants. The Moschino designer gleefully breaks the rules—–a McDonald’s motif for a literal take on fast fashion, Gigi Hadid gussied up as a bouquet of flowers and babes as real-life Barbie dolls, to name a few past examples – and what’s fashion with rules, anyway?

That’s one of the reasons Moschino and Playboy are such kindred spirits and longtime friends. They both arguably provide an exuberant high-low mix of sex and wit, sophistication and play and the shining allure of the good life, sans pretention.

The party following Moschino’s Spring/Summer 2019 show, featuring a collection dubbed “Meta Muse,” offered the same, not to mention hordes of decked-out onlookers pouring onto 42nd Street desperate to make it inside the venue, while alarmingly impeccable Bunnies acted as the evening’s gracious hostesses.

Glimpses of the crowd raised the question: Is it actually the right move to wear a Moschino logo tee to a Moschino party? Then again, who cares? Fashion and Playboy both preach do whatever the hell feels right and get some pleasure out of it in the meantime.

A lush interior blending old New York at its most glamorous, elements of Art Deco and contemporary decadence set the scene for Cardi B to unleash her inner old-school bombshell (a leopard-print wiggle dress never hurts) and Tiffany Haddish to kick back with Saweetie and Quavo. Victoria’s Secret model Stella Maxwell, the epitome of insouciance in a tank top, chilled at the VIP table next to Scott and fashion icon Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele. Paris Jackson mingled with Miles Richie and Dove Cameron, while Kim Petras struck poses in front of the Club’s bespoke exotic aquarium and DJs Mia Moretti and the Misshapes (speaking of classic New York) set the tone, literally. Obviously, “In My Feelings” was played. Twice. People danced, ate sliders, downed champagne and checked out each other’s fits: a quintessential New York Fashion Week mood.

Jeremy Scott represented Playboy on his own terms, wearing a T-shirt featuring the iconic Rabbit icon emblazoned with the phrase Gayboy. “It’s a knockoff!” he said, almost sheepishly. “I saw it on the street!” Scott’s instinctual nod kind of sums it up: Playboy preaches “entertainment for all” and means it. While the imminent opening of the Club ushers in a new era, it simultaneously revitalizes a nostalgic age of capricious escapism and perhaps most importantly, unadulterated, often-underestimated fun.
