Kendall Jenner Got Naked and Rode a Horse. Why Is This a Bad Thing?

Playboy examines the nude beach romp that spurred criticism

Kendall Jenner’s nudes leaked. Already, I’ve lost around 75 percent of the people reading this, who have now contributed to the top search on Google, right above “What happens when you die” and whichever iPhone that Apple just announced with an S at the end of it.

Normally, news of such nudes leaking would be a celebrated affair for both men and women alike (assuming they were leaked legally, which these probably weren't). But alas, said photos have drawn not universal praise, but criticism. In the images, Jenner is seen running completely naked on a beach. These photos were taken by photographer Russell James for his upcoming book Angels, with an assortment of other wacky, clothes-free activities Kendall takes part in, like horseback riding and tree climbing.
However, the internet has been tearing these photos to shreds, with Twitter trolls claiming Jenner is “too skinny” and that she “looks like a skeleton.” The same society that fully supports body positivity has now begun shaming someone’s bag of bones for not being aesthetically pleasing to their third-party eye.
I bet none of us are jealous that she got paid 10 million to run naked on some sand. If I did the same thing, I’d probably pay a 10 million-dollar bail and have to apologize on CNN.
Look, finding hypocrisy in modern society is about as easy as tweeting “money doesn’t buy happiness” from your 128gb iPhone X, before running away from a homeless person asking for change. But this is a new kind of hypocrisy. Body positivity is a great philosophy because it’s saying “it doesn’t matter your size, you’re beautiful just the way you are.” But apparently, when someone is “too small,” it’s OK to ridicule them and enforce an unrealistic body image?

People who call Jenner underweight can argue that they’re only concerned for her health, but how is that any different than a guy ridiculing someone who's overweight for the same thing? Certain people literally can’t control their weight, whether it be a condition like a thyroid problem, or what some might consider a blessing with an extremely fast metabolism. No one considers these possibilities before giving the totally informed advice of “Oh, you just gotta eat less/more.”
There could be myriad reasons Jenner looks the way she does. Maybe it’s the overwhelming industry/societal pressures to be in impeccable shape: to be skinny, but not too skinny. To be lean like a stallion, but not too bulky. To have an unrealistic “perfect” body, but not too perfect. These suffocating pressures could, shockingly, be causing stress for the model, which could lead to loss of appetite, which could lead to her thin appearance.

But ah, who cares, right? Let’s all just tweet how terrible she looks, which is totally not projecting our own insecurities on this 22-year-old woman. I bet none of us are jealous that she probably got paid $10 million to run naked on some sand. If I did the same thing, I’d probably pay a $10 million bail and have to apologize on CNN.

Strangely, people who are obsessed with celebrities seem to treat them like dolls. Celebs are malleable objects that the public can control and critique at their leisure, with zero consequence on the spectators' end. None of the trolls consider that these people are just that: people. That Kendall Jenner probably woke up to some photos of her body being national-news headlines, and shamed by the people who call themselves her fans.

Body positivity is a great idea, but it has to be all-inclusive to every body type. Because it truly doesn’t fucking matter how little/much fat/muscle you have. At the end of the day, our bodies are just a dumb sack of bones and organs that eat stuff, and shit it out sometimes. Why everyone puts so much stock and energy into how their sack looks is beyond me. Also, apologies for any typos in this article. I was running on the treadmill when I wrote it.
